A thought I had wile reading over someones shoulder on The MAX today.
This individual was a man in his late seventy's. He was reading some kind of manuscript from a self help course for middle class republicans to help them perceive others in the predifinable context there given; or so it seemed. The manuscript was pact full of stereotypes. Most of which I found to be quiet offensive. The Jock will become the Middle Class Adult. The quiet child will become the emotionally unstable Adult (Things like that). Yet as with most things of this nature there was one that I found particularly interesting, possibly because I felt it related to me.
The Rebel Child Will Become The Artistic Adult. This statement (Just like any other statement that attempts to group people together simply) is base off many flawed ideas, and puts foreword several innuendos regarding the people it is referring to.
1: That the act of creativity is a rebellious act.
2: That an individual Is unable to change ones personality and beliefs. Except into some predefinable context.
(In this case rebellious to artistic)
3:(Can be substituted for 2.) That if one where to attempt to changes a rebellious individual, artistic would be the easiest switch.
More do come to mind but I think I will focus on the ones on hand.
1#The inevitable flaw with 1 is that, art in its nature can and can not be rebellious, all depending on the individual making it. Now if we where to believe that art in general is a rebellious act, this is an assumption entirely based off of the society or culture of whom ever is making this judgment. For example in some cultural backgrounds becoming a lawyer or a politician could be considered rebellious.
2#I personally feel that 2 is fairly self explanatory as to why it is flawed.
3#As for 3 let me tell you being an artist is by all means no walk in the park. Not only that but after seeing a good portion of Americans and human being general. I had come to the conclusion that most hoped there children would grow up to be self gratifying cesspools of misogynistic waist. Just like god had intended.
Ok I'll admit that 3 is the only good thing that has come out of that statement. I personally feel that if some one is rebellious you should give them a paintbrush or a big brick of clay. Really I feel that everyone should have those things handed to them.
YOU DON'T NEED TO BE A REBEL TO MAKE ART!
Thank you yours truly a consciences rebel artist.
